What happen to Honda?

Honda put Formula One team up for sale

Honda have announced that it plans to sell its Formula One team after the Japanese car manufacturer’s decision to withdraw from the sport in light of difficult conditions in the global auto market.

The current Honda team was formed in 2000 after the company took over the former BAR squad, transforming it into a works team in 2006. Honda now hope to have new owners in place ahead of the 2009 season.

Team principal Ross Brawn and team CEO Nick Fry are expected to be closely involved in the evaluation of potential buyers, with speculation also arising that Brawn could call on contacts at his former team, Ferrari, to help secure a new engine supply deal.

Honda’s original Formula One involvement began in the 1960s, American Richie Ginther scoring their maiden win at the 1965 Mexico Grand Prix. Absent from competition in the ‘70s, they went on to several title successes as engine suppliers in the ‘80s and ‘90s with the likes of Williams and McLaren.

Their 2006 works return started well, with Jenson Button winning the Hungarian Grand Prix en route to fourth in the constructors’ championship. However, the team lost their way the following year, scoring just six points from 17 races.

Brawn’s subsequent arrival was heralded as the start of a new era, but came too late to have significant impact on Honda’s 2008 campaign, which saw them finish ninth in the final standings.

Neither of Honda’s race drivers, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, has yet been confirmed for 2009 and the UK-based team recently evaluated GP2 star Bruno Senna.

Full statement from Honda:
“We, Honda Motor Co., Ltd., have come to the conclusion that we will withdraw from all Formula One activities, making 2008 the last season of participation.

“This difficult decision has been made in light of the quickly deteriorating operating environment facing the global auto industry, brought on by the sub-prime problem in the United States, the deepening credit crisis and the sudden contraction of the world economies.

“Honda must protect its core business activities and secure the long term as widespread uncertainties in the economies around the globe continue to mount. A recovery is expected to take some time.

“Under these circumstances, Honda has taken swift and flexible measures to counter this sudden and expansive weakening of the marketplace in all business areas. However, in recognition of the need to optimize the allocation of management resources, including investment regarding the future, we have decided to withdraw from Formula One participation.

“We will enter into consultation with the associates of Honda Racing F1 Team and its engine supplier Honda Racing Development regarding the future of the two companies. This will include offering the team for sale.

“In its third era of Formula One activities, Honda has been participating in Formula One races from the 2000 season, initially with BAR, by adopting a new format of jointly developing racing machines. Subsequently, in a move to meet the changing environment surrounding Formula One, we switched to running a 100 percent Honda-owned team commencing with the 2006 season.

“Surmounting many challenges, the Honda Team achieved a Grand Prix victory in 2006, enabling Honda to receive overwhelming support from Honda fans around the world that were looking forward to greater success. It, therefore, has been an extremely difficult decision for us to come to this conclusion without having been able to fully meet the expectations of our fans.

“By making the best of what we have learned during these times of economic turmoil, coupled with the spirit of challenge gained through active participation in racing, we intend to continue with our commitment in meeting new challenges.

“Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our fans and all those who have supported Honda’s Formula One efforts, including everyone in the world of Formula One.

“Thank you very much.”

Takeo Fukui
President and CEO
Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

Orang Kaya terus kaya

Orang miskin terus miskin

Terima kasih kepada yang menghulur

Yang menerima amat berbesar hati

semoga anda dirahmati

amin..

Typhoon hits China coast, 100,000 evacuated

HONG KONG (Reuters) – A powerful typhoon ploughed into a densely populated area of southern China on Wednesday, prompting the state Meteorological Administration to issue an “urgent red alert”, its highest-level warning.

Authorities evacuated more than 100,000 people before typhoon Hagupit made landfall around dawn. The storm killed at least eight people in the Philippines earlier in the week.

Tropical Storm Risk (http://www.tropicalstormrisk.com/) downgraded the storm from category 4 to 3 on a scale of 5 once it made landfall.

Streets were deserted and shops and businesses shuttered as the storm uprooted trees and brought down billboards in cities across the booming southern Chinese province of Guangdong, including Maoming where the centre of the storm made landfall.

The state news agency Xinhua said a fishing boat sank but no casualties were reported.

It described typhoon Hagupit as “the worst to hit Guangdong in more than a decade”, but it was not clear by what gauge it was measuring the storm when typhoons in the past have triggered heavy death tolls.

Hagupit whipped past Hong Kong overnight, uprooting trees and causing flash floods in low-lying areas including Lantau island where the city’s airport is located, with dozens of people injured across the territory.

More than 50,000 vessels had been called back to port and authorities in Guangdong, the manufacturing hub of China, Xinhua news said.

Torrential rain and more flooding was forecast. Hagupit would also hit Guangxi, to the west of Guangdong, and the tropical resort island of Hainan, authorities said.

Flights in Hong Kong were disrupted on Tuesday night, stranding scores of passengers in the airport.

At least 14 miners remained trapped in a gold mine in the north of the Philippines after rainwater flooded a shaft.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council said four people drowned, three were buried by landslides and one was electrocuted when the storm lashed the Philippines’ northern region. Some areas were isolated due to floods and landslides.

Several towns in the Philippines remained without power and telephone service.

In Vietnam, the government said Hagupit would bring heavy rains on Wednesday night which could herald flash floods and landslides in northern coastal and mountainous provinces, including Quang Ninh, the country’s main coal producing area.

Tropical storms in the region gather intensity from the warm ocean waters and frequently develop into typhoons that hit Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and southern China during a season that lasts from early summer to late autumn.

Another storm was brewing to the east of the Philippines. Tropical Storm Risk said the storm, named “nineteen”, was expected to strengthen and head west towards China, following a similar path to Hagupit.

In China’s quake-hit province of Sichuan, 14 people are missing after landslides triggered by heavy rain, Xinhua quoted a local official as saying.

Heavy rain, not related to the typhoon, also hit the Tangjiashan area, blocking the sluice of the dangerous “quake lake”, formed by mudslides blocking valleys, and raising its water level by five metres.

The lake was formed during the May 12 quake in which more than 80,000 people died.

Year Two girl dies at school

MALACCA: A Year Two pupil died in front of her teachers and other children at a premier Chinese primary school here in Bandar Hilir, despite efforts by doctors to save her.

Yap Li Xuen’s death was doubly heartbreaking for her parents who had lost their elder daughter, Li Choo, five years ago. Then only five, Li Choo had succumbed to brain tumour.

Li Xuen, eight, was found unconscious in the toilet of SJKC Pay Fong II along Jalan Tamby Abdullah by janitor Chong Kim Leng at about 1.30pm.

The 43-year-old was cleaning the toilet when she heard a thud from one of the cubicles.

“I found the toilet door locked. I realised something was wrong when I noticed a girl’s braid sticking out from under the door,” she said when met at the school here yesterday.

Chong immediately alerted the security guard who managed to break open the toilet door and found Li Xuen lying motionless.

A few teachers helped carry Li Xuen out and placed her on two tables at the main entrance of the school.

Other teachers frantically sought help from a nearby clinic, a private medical centre and the Malacca Hospital.

Headmaster Ng Nai Tak said the girl’s father, Choh Yu, 42, arrived when the doctors were trying to revive Li Xuen.

Choh Yu, a stationery shop owner, said he and his 39-year-old wife were now left only with a four-year-old son.

He added that Li Xuen had seemed normal and did not complain of any pain or illness before leaving for school yesterday morning.

However, she is known to have passed out on several occasions.

Police have classified the incident as sudden death pending the post-mortem result.

Man arrested for abusing his daughter

IPOH: A lorry driver was arrested for allegedly beating his 14-year-old daughter with a stick in Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Superintendent Yahaya Othman said the 43-year-old father had been suspected of beating the girl each time he was drunk.

”We believe this has been going on for years and we are investigating if her four siblings had been suffering the same fate,” he said yesterday.

The girl, DSP Yahaya said, had run away from home after the latest incident where she suffered bruises on her face and body after she was repeatedly hit with a stick on Monday night.

“She then sought help from an uncle who took her to the Ringlet police station to lodge a report.

“We arrested the father at his home in Ringlet following that,” DSP Yahaya said, adding that the father was being remanded for three days until Thursday.

Uwais mendapat suatu ilham, dia terfikir apa nak dibuat.
